Anne Marston - Fiber artist-Knitted and Felted Purse donated to Penny's Purses for the gallery Holiday Fundraiser.
Anne Marston's introduction to our area of the world was memorable, or, in her words, awful! She arrived in a March blizzard in 2006 to continue her artistic adventures in a creative and productive life!
Previously, Anne lived in Sedona and was a partner in New West Galleries where ...she displayed her paintings along with other artists' work. While in Sedona, Anne joined a beading group to explore the intricacies of beading and became fascinated with the process of weaving as she met members who were fiber artists.
Marston demonstrates vast interests in art and is proficient as a painter using oils and soft pastels and has produced large colorful images of flowers as well as landscapes. Bronze sculptures of "chunky female forms" became a passion for several years and Anne sold several of her unique pieces.
Since 2003, Anne has enjoyed working exclusively with fiber, much of which she spins as well as hand dyes into rich, saturated colors, and she now describes herself as "a loom junkie". She also describes her work as fine craft because of the interplay of color and texture she achieves. It's like painting with threads. She also incorporates her beading into some of her designs.
Anne is a past president of the Mountain Spinners and Weavers Guild, an organization that helps newcomers to weaving as well as producing workshops to teach techniques to more accomplished weavers. She appreciates that the members are very open to sharing their processes and techniques. Anne gives credit to Diane Gilbert, formerly a weaving instructor at Yavapai College, for helping her to approach weaving as an art form.
Preferred fabrics in Anne's stash include rayon, rayon chenille and Tencel. She holds a degree in graphic design from American University in Washington, DC has served her well as she creates intricate designs for her shawls, scarves, mobius v-wraps, table runners, wall hangings and tea towels, among others. She shares that one will never go back to regular towels after using handwovens!
This Fiber Artist has an hear for others who are in need of help and during this holiday season she donated several hand knitted and felted purses to Penny's Purses, this year's annual fundraising group chosen by the Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery, to benefit the Prescott Area Women's Shelter (PAWS) serving Yavapai County. Penny's Purses is a group of local women who donate their time and considerable artistic skills to design, sew, bead, and sell uniquely created purses. All of the materials and beads are donated- nothing is purchased."It is important to me to help causes about which I feels strongly", writes Anne and her enthusiasm for life is evident as she says "I love it all"!
A member of the Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery on Historical Whiskey Row in Prescott, this local Artist says it is a joy and pleasure to be part of the gallery which is enjoying its 17th year in business.
Anne Marston will be on hand, along with all of the gallery members to support Penny's Purses for their opening reception at Arts Prescott, November 25, 201 from 6pm to 8pm. Don't forget to pick up raffle tickets to win local gallery art as well. This Holiday Fundraiser Show with Penny's Purses runs November 21 to December 21, 2011. Join Arts Prescott on Facebook:
