Southwest Fiber Arts Guild Meet at Diamond Valley Alpaca - Roberta Electronic Spinner Demo

Southwest Fiber Guild from the Tucson area enjoyed a 2010 road trip to Prescott to visit Diamond Valley Alpacas . They also  held their state wide meeting there.

Organized in January 2008 by a group of fiber artists and educators, ranchers and
purveyors of fiber who believe the Southwest has a myriad of resources to offer.
It will be our mission to bring like-minded individuals together
to share information and educational opportunities.

As part of that mission, we sponsor the Southwest Fiber Festival each October.
During the course of the year, our 'meetings in motion' will feature a program designed
to educate the members about an aspect of the fiber culture in Southern Arizona.

Membership is available to all persons regardless of age, sex, disability, religion, race
or color who will adhere to and support the objectives of the guild.

Chardonnay Recycled Bottle Glass and Seed Beads

"Loves Chardonnay"

A brooch created using Recycled Wine Bottle Glass lampworked into beads and a pendant for this brooch.

I added a Lucite Bead which I coved using Peyote Stitch and size 11 seed beads.

My Pandora Collection

This has been so much fun... Collecting Pandora Beads and Charms  ... remember all the wonderful places you have visited and the fun you had at the time.

When you enter a shop which carries Pandora beads and charms ...you are treated extra nice because buying a charm for your collection is an event. Pandora (Copenhagen, Denmark), promises you this treat and they check up on all of the comments sent to them. Not everyone can be a Pandora Dealer!

My collection is vast. I began my collection when I purchased my first bracelet in Sedona.

 On my bracelet along side of my Pandora beads and charms are my Recycled Wine Bottle Beads which can be found at Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery in my Jewelry Case. Check by the gallery and see what I have been doing as far as fun lampwork and seed bead jewelry.

I also have a Randy Shackleford Cuddle Fish Heart, a Mary Kaye O'Neill Cactus Bead and a Sarah Foster Bead.

Oh...and my Pandora Necklace. I mainly wanted this for my Limited Edition Pieces honoring Hans Christian Anderson. I visited his home which is now a Museum in Odensee, Denmark many years ago.

Merlot, Of Course - Recycled Bottle Glass

"Loves Merlot, Loves to Dance"

The focal bead is the neck of the Merlot wine bottle. Through the bead I ran bead fringe of fresh water pearls.

Hand cut glass vintage beads from German adorn this necklace along with more Merlot Lampwork throughout.

Peyote Stitch finishes off the necklace  ending with a Sterling Silver Clasp.

Lampwork Fish Bead

Lampwork created using Morretti Glass  Rods!

Beading is such a fun process. Here I just used size 11 seed beads to create a necklace with my Lampwork. The focal bead is, of course, a fish bead. I call my fish "Arizona Big Lips Fish"

The main strand of seed beads was strung on soft flex and then I used bead thread to create the extra strands on the necklace.

Here are 2 Hollow Lampwork Bead Wine Drops created using Chardonnay Recycled Glass.

The drop located at the bottom of the photo is solid Chardonnay Glass.

I use these artful wooden Bobbins from Majacraft. I must say that tools are wonderful, but beautiful tools are even better. They make creating more meaningful to me.

Majacraft writes, "What do you know about ... Kumihimo Marudai?
Little is known of the early history of Kumihimo (roughly meaning "the coming together of threads") however we do know that its origins are based in Japan, as well as China and Peru as far back as 500BC."

"The Japanese people used kumihimo for many aspects of their daily lives, including the intricate and beautiful detail on kimono garments, tea ceremony containers, ribbons for fans etc.  But probably its best known use was for the binding together of the Samurai's armour, and for the handle of his sword.  Each suit of armour required 250-300m of cord!"

"In Samurai time, they used to place the braided cord into iced-water to increase its strength and durability - you would have to be a very good sword fighter to be able to cut through the braid with a very sharp sword!"

"Kumihimo is considered a traditional Japanese art, and is still practised today in its original form for the making of the traditional kimono braid."

I will be showing you my Kumihimo Braiding  that I am working on right now...HAND SPUN CAMEL.

Tis is located on the square in downtown Prescott in the Knights of Pythias Building.

"The Knights of Pythias Building was built in 1893 and was the tallest structure in Prescott at that time. Also known as the Tilton Building it is one of the few structures that survived the fire of 1900. After a two year restoration matching early 1900's criteria by the 'Tis Foundation, the building is now a sparkling three level work of art with polished woodwork throughout.
  The ground floor houses work by Prescott area artists in a breathtaking gallery where the  purpose is promote local artists and provide a variety of contemporary, economical art to the community.

Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky Recycled Glass Bottle Glass Makes Wonderful Beads

Not only is Glenfiddich a wonderful treat for the taste buds... it's bottle has a Green Gem appearance. This is great for the creation of my lampwork beads.

I was able to keep a slight abstract part of the Glenfiddich Logo which is not easy to do while using the torch to form the pendant.

The pendant is adorned with other beads and off loom bead weaving. I used peyote stitch and size 11 seed beads for this piece.

The cord was created using Kumihimo Braiding and it is 100% cotton. All of my Kumihimo braids can be washed using a soap for delicate fibers. For the Alpaca, Buffalo and Merino cords I use "Soak" found at finer yarn and fiber shops.
