During the opening of "From Caves to Castles" If Beads Could Talk Reception and Fundraiser at The Bead Museum in Glendale, Arizona I ended up taking off my "Arizona Big Lips Fish" Necklace and adding it to in the silent auction.
This piece was won by Marjorie Rice from Wells Fargo Bank. Wells Fargo was well represented at the reception. Margie attended Elementary and High School with me and she is also a member of The Bead Museum. I hope to make her a beader as well.
I blogged about the Arizona Big Lips Fish necklace in an earlier post this month. This is to show what Marjorie and I decided to do with the necklace. Marjorie suggested a longer chain made of beads. This seed bead rope is created using size 11 seed beads and right angle weave.
The Bead Museum creates so much interest in beads and their history. Being a beader myself, I appreciate the new beaders who are born each day after visiting The Bead Museum. They come into Arts Prescott Gallery, bead stores and shop all of the bead shows after they are hooked on beads. Supporting The Bead Museum is so important.
Also, after a visit to The Bead Museum your interest in world history awakens. If you weren't a history buff before the visit this will lead you to become one. As a lampwork bead artist I often hold a handful of my beads and wonder who will be holding them in 200 years as I do today.
"Arizona Big Lips" is adorned using Off Loom Bead Weaving. I learned these stitches at The Bead Museum Bead Store. You can learn the same at any of your local bead shops if you do not live in our area. I used mainly Brick Stitch on this pendant. Not the Amber Colored Lampwork beads along with the Baltic Amber and Fresh Water Pearls.
