Saturday I attended a workshop taught by Linda Germain at A Good Yarn in Prescott. Linda is a fiber artist from Tucson and she shows her felted purses at the Southwest Fiber Fest each year.
Here is the cord I finished using the disk, weight and e-z bobs that Linda provided during her Kumihimo Class.
I considered how I would create the cap for a necklace with my wirework as I braided.
I would use the idea of a simple connection and continue from there.
A. Cut 16g wire (1 1/2 inch) for simple connection and 5 to 6 inches for a cap depending how long you want the cap on the —Kumihimo Braid.
B. Use round nose pliers in opposite directions and create a figure 8 connection for simple connection. For the cap only create 1/2 of that figure 8.
Add continuing wraps with the wire to create your cap. This shows both the connection and cap procedure.
Be sure to turn end of your wire into the cord. This grips the yarn for more hold. Slip off and add your glue to the fiber cord before you replace your cap to the braid end.
I did some sewing through the braid and corded
my bead thread around the end and made a knot.
This is just an example of how the wirework cap
will go on the braid after you are finished with the wrapping the cap.
Before I slipped the wirework cap on my braid I added my glue to the ends of the braid. This will create more stability to the end cap. I turned the wire end wrapped toward the braid toward the yarn using flat nose pliers into the braid. This acts as a claw for the braided cotton yarn.
The end of my wirework cap is the one side of the connection shown above. I opened it and added the jump ring which is connected to the clasp. This clasp can be purchased at any bead store. This is repeated this on the other end of my braid.
The Merlot Pendent is one I created using recycled Merlot Wine Bottle Glass.
Note the glass button adorning the Merlot Pendant along with Fresh Water Pearls, Faceted Crystals and Stone Beads.
