South of Tucson...Southwest Fiber Association enjoyed two full days in Prescott.
Friday the group joined in with Prescott Fiber Artist and Arts Prescott Gallery Member for a Felting Class. Michelle used the Mountain Artist Guild classroom for the Felting Class.
Michelle shared her art of the Felted Brooch with the Southwest Fiber Association.
Michelle is the owner of Laughing Cloud Studio in Prescott, Arizona. Michelle has had an on-going love affair with fiber as an early art form, since she discovered it in the early 80's while attending the Kansas City Art Institute. During these 20 plus years of creating complex cloth and turning a myriad of ideas into wearable art, wall art and home decor accents, the passion is still alive. Michelle says, 'I love color and texture and it feels fabulous to touch the raw materials while creating them!' She works intuitively, dyeing, felting and weaving with natural fibers. The outcome is sometimes surprising but always challenges her to create the next piece. Michelle's works have been shown in International art-to-wear competitions, juried art festivals, galleries and boutiques across the U.S.
The Hotel Vendome on Cortez Street gave the association a group rate so they enjoyed one of Prescott's Historical Hotels during their stay.
After the felting class and dinner many of the members enjoyed the 4th Friday Art Walk in Prescott along with the Arts Prescott Guest Artist Show with Tony Reynolds, a local clay artist.
Rowena's Fiber Amulet Bags were also the talk of the group.
On Saturday the Southwest Fiber Association met at Rowena Tank's home for their monthly meeting. It was a delight to meet all of the members and share ideas with one another.
The Spring Southwest Member Fiber Show was discussed and plans are in the making to share all of their work and ideas with the public.
March 21, 2009 is the date to remember. I will be sharing more about this Southwest Fiber Association show
with you soon. I will have the information up shortly.
The Association enjoyed
Prescott and also the few
shops they were
able to visit.
