During the planning of Jeanne Zinda and my trip to the Hopi Cultural Center, I received a call from Christine Brearton. Christine is a long time Mountain Spinners and Weavers Guild member and she heard about our plans to teach at the Hopi Reservation during one of our meetings. Christine offered to donate her Ashford Traveler Spinning Wheel for our spinning class.
Christine writes, "As regards to spinning. About 18 years ago I decided to learn to weave, but prior to that I also wanted to spin. So for four years I carded, washed, dyed
, and spun lots of wool. Many members of the Guild raised a variety of animals so I had a great selection of fibers and good teachers. I have continued to spin over the years, but after moving to Arizona my spinning/weaving space is greatly diminished and the wheel no longer interested me. I'm so happy to see it go to women who have a Passion for spinning."
Christine continues, "My love at the moment is rag rugs as you can see. I have no pictures of early spinning results. At this time I am learning to knit socks and I always have fun with fibers."
The Mountain Spinners and Weavers meet every 3rd Saturday from 9am to 1pm at the American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, here in Prescott.
