Jane Patrick from Schacht Spindle Company heard about the Mountain Spinners and Weavers interest in teaching a group of ladies on the Hopi Reservation to spin. I told her that I got a call about the town of Polacca which had a large amount of raw fiber with no one in the area to spin it. I immediately offered to drive up the hill and teach them as much as I could in two days.
Also -- with future trips in mind.
Jane immediately offered to donated several older model Schacht Spindles and they came in the mail yesterday. Wow, I spun on these spindles and now I can not wait to try the new models. I cannot imagine a spindle spinning better then these 4. Thank you so much Jane for helping our project get off to a great start.
Schacht Spindle Company is an American Company located in Boulder, Colorado. Jane, correct me if I am wrong with this information. Schacht Hi-Lo Spindles are easy to use because of the way they are created. Schacht writes, "Our Hi-Lo Spindles offer the best of both whorls: A brass hook at the top for high-whorl spinning and a grooved shaft for low-whorl spinning." The new spindles from Schacht come in three sizes which offer a broad spectrum of spinning capabilities: 3" (2.2 ounces), 4" (3 ounces) and 2" (1.1 ounces).
I will be running out today and checking these out!

Check out all of Schacht's wonderful spinning wheels. Several Mountain Spinners and Weavers Guild members spin with the Schacht Matchless Spinning Wheel and I have spun on it at Will and Kate Taylors during the "Spinning at the Winery". Spinning with this wheel is a smooth experience.
