Filippi Winery - Wine Tasting - Wine Drop Beads

During a recent trip to L.A. I enjoyed an afternoon of wine tasting at the Joseph Filippi Winery in Ontario, California.

I came away with a Zinfandel, Cucamonga Valley, 2005 Syrah and a couple of great Port and Sherry wines.

Special wine drops will be created from these bottles named after the wine in the bottles. Recycled Wine Bottle Glass is used for the drops. I also create special drops if I get special bottles.

Recently, I was given several Chardonnay bottles which were from a Celebration of Life and I created many pieces of jewelry from that special bottle. Special orders come in like that now and again and it reminds me why I began to use the recycled wine bottle glass for my lampwork beads.

"The Bead Movement" Bead Documentary - Wendy Simpson Conner

The Bead Movement, a documentary produced and directed by Wendy Simpson Conner, is a must have! It also makes a wonderful gift for anyone interested in beads.

Glenda Campbell and I are both in the video talking about growing up in Phoenix together and how we both got into bead making and jewelry design. It was truly a delight to be in this video and have the experience to travel to Beverly Hills to see it on the big screen. This bead documentary was up for an Academy Award Nomination and the screening was an exciting event.

"Loves Merlot-Loves to Dance" Necklace Recycled Merlot Bottle Glass

Recycled Merlot Bottle Glass was used to create this one-of-a-kind Lampwork Bead Necklace. Note the Hollow Bead and the Merlot Pendant.

I love to hand the plain pendants on sterling silver wire.

The remaining back part of this necklace is done by using Tubular Peyote Stitch and the closure is a sterling silver wire work piece.

"Loves Merlot - Loves to Dance" is one of the pieces featured in the Georgene Lockwood book, "The Idiots Guide to Beading". Lampwork and Seed Beads all in Amber Tones

Seed Beads braided to make a necklace hanging 24 inches long. Larger tubular Lampwork beads added between the braiding on both sides and then multi fringes of seed beads and lampwork. Beads from around the world are also an addition to this piece. Note the many hollow beads adorning the fringe.

EZ Glitzer- Rowena's On Line Store

The EZ Glitzer makes is an applicator Wand which makes it a breeze to add glitz to your jeans or hand woven piece.

You can get the crystals and the EZ Glitzer on my web store. The hot fix have an adhesive on the back and the wand melts the adhesive and fused it to the material. Just think of the fun glitz you could add to your shoes.

It is always fun to share secrets and craft idea.

Atlanta Historical Society Museum/stefania Schollaert

  After Stefania Schollaert moved to South Carolina I thought we would miss out on all of the information she shares. Stefania stays in touch and sends great information for my blog.

This Coverlet was found at the Atlanta Historical Society Museum. What a great hand woven pattern.

Soy Silk®Merino Royal Raggedy Ro/ Tucson Gem and Mineral Show "To Bead True Blue" --

Soy Silk® and Merino Royal Raggedy Ro is one of my favorite Ro's. Oh So Soft! This hand spun yarn is delicious to knit or weave into an art to wear creation.

Recycled Knitted Yarn for Doll Hair and Fringe

While creating my Fiber Amulet Bag Kit I tried new ideas to come up with Fringe Design. I used mainly beads and buttons to adorn the fringe and seed beads to sew down the fringe.

After attending a Prescott Fine Arts Show I saw several woven pieces marked created from recycled yarn. I had a knitted silk sweater which I did not wear so I took it apart and realized two things.

1. It take a lot of hours and if you have an abundance of time and you want to recycle yarn, taking a sweater apart that is fine idea.

2. It is worth it to get the curly yarn for adornment. I wouldn't want to make a large project using recycled yarn because you can find such good deals at most of the fiber shops. But, to get a curly yarn this is a great sourse. If you are a doll maker think about doing this for the hair. If you like fancy fringe this is also a great idea.  http://rowenaart.net/store/login.php

Susan Weese and Raggedy RO

Susan Weese loves to knit with Raggedy RO. Recently, she tried the light Ro and loved it and here are some great photos of her creations.

Susan writes: "Here is a set pf pictures of Taylor's College Cardigan style sweater in your Navy Raggedy Ro" with a stripe of Naturally Tussock Aran for the contrast. Taylor really likes it!! I do too, it came out very nice. "    If you get a chance Susan add some comments on the hat. Did you knit it also? Also the Afghan on the chair? I love to see your yarn stash in the window of the case. 

 

Fringe Twister - What a Great Tool!

One of my favorite tools when creating fringe and cords for my Fiber Amulet Bags is The Fringe Twister. I will have several Fringe Twisters created by Leclerc Looms for you to try out during the Tucson Show, "To Bead True Blue".

To ply with the Fringe Twister: Divide the number of stands you are cording or fringing into two groups. If this is a cord you are making either knot the two groups or double them. I use a hook on the door or wall to hand the yarn from and hold it taut to begin making the cord. If you have another pair of hands you can have someone hold the end you are not clamping into the twister.

Clamp one group each into the clips on the Leclerc Fringe Twister. Holding the wooden crank (or handle) with with one hand in the center of the wooden crank turn clockwise until it kinks. You can decide how tight you want your cords and with time you will know how many times you will turn the crank. It is all up to you and your design.

Now it is time for you to remove the 2 groups from the clips carefully. If you drop one you will need to begin form the beginning. Put both groups in one clip and secure the end bundle with an overhand knot. Now....release the group and allow them to twist around using the crank once again. This time you will be turning counterclockwise.

These Fringe Twisters are made of Maple and they are approximately 4" X 4". Once you have used this tool you will never be without it.  VISIT MY ON LINE STORE FOR THE FRINGE TWISTER:

Patricia Brockert's Beads on Fringe!

Patricia Brockert, Bead and Fiber Artist used my Lampwork Beads on the ends of her fringe of one of her one of a kind scarves. Note the hand dyed ribbon yarn.

You can often find Patricia in the knitting groups here in Prescott or working with her grand children on a fun project.

Mountain Spinners and Weavers Silent Auction 07

                                                                            2007 brings many exciting projects and shows.

On January 20 the Mountain Spinners and weavers will hold their 2007 Silent Auction for the Guild Members. All of the proceeds go to the Guild itself. Members bring in yarn, fiber and equipment for the silent auction. This of course will benefit the Guild. The Guild gives scholarships each year and also supports many community projects.

Of course you must be a Guild Member to join in on this fun silent auction.

Multi-Wine Necklace

Wine Bottle Glass is delightful!

This Multi-Wine Necklace is created with Chardonnay and Merlot wine bottle glass. Several beads of agate nests the wine bottle beads together and plain Peyote Stitch finishes the piece ending with a sterling silver clasp.

Start 2007 with "Shiraz"

Recycled Shiraz Wine Bottle Glass forms this Pendant hanging from a German Vintage Button. The Necklace itself is Tubular Peyote Stitch with a Baltic Silver closure.

Tubular Peyote ropes are time consuming but they create an artful necklace.

This piece is currently showing at Arts Prescott.
