How special am I? Look what came in the mail yesterday. Yes, these are HAND DYED, HAND KNITTED socks created by Kate Campbell Taylor from Treadles and Threads Guild in the Bay Area. The yarn is from Woodland Woolworks - a blend of wool and nylon.
During my stay in Martinez, California with the Taylors I talked about spinning on Mondays at Sharlot Hall Museum with the Mountain Spinners and Weavers Guild and how the spinners all had their own hand knitted socks. I wanted to learn to knit to make a pair for me. It would take some time to get to it with all the other things on my daily planner, but I did make it one of my goals. After some time Kate decided Rowena was not getting this done so with measurements in tow Kate began with the sock plan.
I telephoned to talk to Kate about how she did the socks with both of them exactly the same without purchasing the measured sock yarn. Kate explained how it was done. She lost me after the first sentence and so she and Will might be around this area in Spring time and I see a day of dye and knit coming my way.
Kate explained that she used a 40 yard skein and dyed the skein every 1 yard. Okay, I get that but as she went on I was lost. She did mention a book called "Yarn to Dye For" by Kathleen Taylor. I will begin at the guild Library and go from there, but I do plan on knitting socks in 2007!
