Yavapai College has offered weaving classes since 1973. Over the years the program has grown and made a significant educational contribution to the community as well as attracting students from Scottsdale, Sedona and Flagstaff.
The instructor Diane Gilbert adds so much to the Weaving Classes. Diane taught Color and Weave during the last semester as well as all about plain weave. It changed the way I not only look at fiber but my jewelry design benefits from the class. The projects brought to class by the other students not only inspires all in the class, but brings excitement for the next project. Also, it is amazing that students drive so far two days a week to enjoy what we here in Prescott have at our fingertips.
Two studio art classes are offered each semester. All Classes entail beginning, intermediate, and advanced education with the result that students are continuously inspired and encouraged by their peers.
The beginning course (Weaving I) is designed to provide a foundation of basic weaving skills, knowledge of terminology, looms, and weaving materials as well as experience in the designing, drafting, and weaving of simple fabric structures.
Intermediate and advanced students can continue their education in the Weaving II course with increased concentration on skills and design through the exploration of special topics. The topics differ each semester and are usually determined by student interest and levels of accomplishment.
Weaving I and II (Art 170 & 171) are offered on Monday & Wednesday 5:30pm – 8:15pm –and Tuesday & Thursday 9:30am to 12:15pm. For more information you can contact the instructor [email protected] or call 928-776-2199
