Jeane has taught classes at the Fiber Factory and Golden Gate fiber Institute. - This is the study that I've wanted for a while. jeanedecoster@elementalaffects.com
Description: The goal of this series of classes will be to design a garment and suitable fabric for that garment AND make the fabric and the garment.
Class is broken down into 4 (or 5) weekend sessions. Each session will consist of lecture/discussion and hands-on activities. You will leave each session with the skills you need to complete your "in-between" homework.
Weekend 1: Select a garment shape. Take measurements. First pattern draft. Discuss fabric requirements. Wind warp and get loom set up for sampling.
The next session contents and dates will be chosen at the end of the the first weekend and will partly depend on how much we can get done.
Note to all: This will be a thinking class. I do not plan on giving you a "sure fire" recipe and have you mindlessly follow the recipe. I want to impart the principles and decisions that are involved with this process, help you connect the dots between the knowledge you've already acquired and be there to help fill in the gaps. We'll have successes and we'll have challenges.
By the end the class you will be able to embrace the challenges with the good feeling that you'll know what to do with your woven cloth and what you want to try for your next project. And, you'll have a garment that you wove ... that fits you. :) Class size: Minimum 4 -- maximum 6. Please bring a loom with you for sampling. I'll have enough warping boards.
But plan on bringing any other equipment you need for warping your loom -- sticks, paper, threading hooks, etc. I believe that you should be able to sample on a portable loom, even if you plan on doing your "production" on a larger loom at home. As soon as we have signups, we'll discuss what yarn to bring for sampling. Bring a measuring tape, note paper, pencils, eraser, etc. I'll provide rulers for use during class and pattern paper. Please plan on "stripping down" to foundation garments for measurements. :) We're all in this together, but if you prefer to be measured in private, that can also be arranged. Please remember that we're planning on embracing and enhancing our current personal geography (all curves and valleys be-damned) and we're all going to do our best to leave body issues at home. :) we start on the weekend of March 3rd and 4th. $150 per person for the weekend.
