This class is your invitation to experience color with heightened
sensitivity. Explore your individual color connections and learn how to feel color through music, memory, taste, smell and daily encounters. Your art and surroundings will never be the same. 

 

We will examine why each of us are unique in our color choices. We will find our inner palette which will make our art unique and more emotionally compelling. Color combinations, texture, line, shape and sheen all influence how our art

feels. Each of us will become more highly attuned to color on this hands-on-workshop. We will mix colors, create beautiful color combinations and examine colors used by artists past and present.

The Durango Art Center Exhibit, "Textiles - Today: Redefining the Medium" 2012

The Durango Arts Center, in conjunction with its upcoming exhibit,  *Textiles - Today:  Redefining the Medium*, will be offering workshops led by three exhibiting artists: Wendy Huhn, Liz Axford, and Lisa Klakulak.  These artists have conducted workshops at prestigious arts and crafts  institutions such as Penland School of Crafts, Haystack Mountain  School of Crafts, and the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.  Class size is limited and sign-up is on a first come first served basis.

Used Victoria Spinning Wheel in Show Low, Arizona for Sale

Victoria by Louet Spinning Wheel. When I was spinning this is the travel wheel I used and enjoyed very much.

Now, Alexandra Howarth, in Show Low, Arizona has her Louet Victoria for slightly used wheel for sale.

Kumihimo is the ancient art of Japanese braiding, a technique used for jewelry, quilt embellishing, purse cords and all sorts of things!

Planning Entries for the Fiber Art Show 2012 Arizona Fibers Through Time conference

We would like everyone who is a member of one of the Federation Guilds to be thinking about their entries for the new and exciting Fiber Art Show which will be held in conjunction with the Fibers Through Time Conference April 19 through 22 in Phoenix.

  There is a total of $1100 in prize money to be awarded.  This is not a juried show, all entries will be accepted, and will be eligible for the prize money to be given in Spinning, Weaving, Surface Design, Tapestry, Basketry, Other Fiber Arts, and Handwoven Clothing,  as well as Best of Show, and Viewers Choice.

The 2012 Fibers Through Time Conference honors the First Arizona State Conference hosted by the Arizona Desert Weavers and Spinners Guild on September 1, 1978. That Conference''s theme was Arizona Weavers: Who Are We?

The introduction from that first conference booklet:

Like the history of the State of Arizona, the crafts of weaving, spinning and dyeing have been influenced by a number of peoples, all calling this geographical area home. The question, "Arizona Weavers: Who Are We?" asks who are the weavers that practice each day, known and unknown, in the cities, villages and rural reaches of the state.

It asks as well, "Who provided the tradition from which all weavers of the state may draw?" The draft design is based on this idea of multiple tradition and influence. It is constructed from a single phrase (Weavers, who are we?) as it appears in six of the many languages of this state.

We have expanded the theme for 2012 to include all Fiber Artists. With the many exciting and varied workshops we are offering this year, we suspect you may find it difficult to decide which one to take. Look through the descriptions and photos of each workshop and learn about the instructors we have invited to share their knowledge with you.

The Conference includes a Vendor Marketplace, a Fiber Art Show, handspun yarn judging, a Learning Center (new this year), the banquet with Deborah Brunner as our exciting keynote speaker, and great raffle items.

The Phoenix location, InnPlace Hotel Phoenix North Metro Center, is easy to get to and offers all the conveniences. Lunches are provided for all attendees. A reception Thursday evening, a dinner Friday night and a Saturday-night banquet at the hotel are also on the agenda.

The Prescott Courier writes: Every year for a month during the holidays, Arts Prescott, a local artists' cooperative, hosts a fundraising event. One hundred percent of the proceeds of this special art show go to the chosen charity. The charity for 2011 Penny's Purses, a division of Prescott Area Women's Shelter. Arts Prescott Gallery recently presented a check for $3,661 to Penny's Purses, which is run entirely by volunteers who create purses to sell to raise money for the charity. The materials for the purses are all from donations.

Arts Prescott thanks all the volunteers and patrons who supported this special show.
